Building the Boat

This is a closeup of the boat building process. This particular longship was made entirely at War. There are no nails holding the longship together, just glue and wax.

A Little Help

One war, Lord Grendel wanted to help build the boat. Actually, he wanted to ride IN the boat, but Baron Garwig told him if he wanted a ride, he had to contribute. Garwig built a small toolkit for Grendel including a saw, set square, small adze and a ruler.

Finished Longship

A finished longship, before the burning. Later longships are larger (up to 5' long) and the shields along the sides are painted by those gentles who wish to remember a loved one during the ceremony.

If you have any pictures of the boat burning ceremony or the longship in progress and you would like them included here, please email the digital image to Lady Branwen with a description of the photograph (dates would be wonderful too!) and the name of the photographer for credit.
